Marketing and Communications Intern

POSITION TITLE/DEPARTMENT: Marketing and Communications Intern 

CLASSIFICATION/GRADE: Part-time, Non-Exempt, Temporary (12 weeks)

SALARY RANGE: 21 hours per week, $16.50 per hour   

 

GENERAL SUMMARY 

As an established and respected organization, the DIA is an excellent place for interns to explore interests in museums and non-profits. Beyond learning about the art collections, interns are able to contribute to everything that helps the museum run smoothly. Interns will work under the guidance and supervision of a DIA professional on a specific project with established learning outcomes.   

 

The Marketing and Communications Intern will gain an understanding of marketing and communications work in a museum environment. The intern will support social media, media outreach and public relations, and complete a project aimed at gathering marketing data.  

 

Projects and Tasks Include:

  • Update social media channels including bios, Instagram stories, links, and other assets.  
  • Creation of social media content at summer events such as fairs, festivals, Inside|Out, and other events.  
  • Update and maintain media lists and assist with media outreach.  
  • Draft press releases. 
  • Independently complete a project aimed at gathering marketing data.  

QUALIFICATIONS 

Successful candidates must be studying at an undergraduate junior level or above in one of the following fields of study at an accredited university: Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.

Candidates must possess strong written communications and organizational skills. Experience with social media content creation and analytics and tracking tools (search, social media, media) preferred. 

Proficiency in the latest version of Office 365, including SharePoint, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Excel is required.  

 

This internship is blended and will include on site and virtual work.   
   

DIA Internship experiences have the following preferences:   

  • Candidates from Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb Counties. 
  • Will be given to those who have not had an internship at the DIA.
